Salem State University Advisory Board Minutes 12/19/2012

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
  • Fitness & Recreation Center – Leif Lamoray from Leftfield, Inc.
  • General
  • Project is progressing, but some time was lost with unforeseen underground issues. The contractor is working closely with the city on this work. The contractor anticipates working the next three Saturdays for sequence of foundation and footings so steel erection is not delayed. With this off-hour work, the contractor can remain on schedule for an August completion.
  • Steel is due to start soon. There will be an early morning delivery on December 26 for the crane for this work.
  • The contractor is working with the city on the water tie in for the project which is located under Lussier Street. This work is anticipated to take place next Wednesday and take a week to complete.
  • Library/Learning Commons Update – Joe Berry, Lee Kennedy Co., Inc.
  • Construction
  • The exterior envelope is complete, and the contractor continues on interior finishes.
  • Phase II Demolition
  • There is no update on phase II demolition.
  • Construction Schedule during holiday shutdown (Dec. 24 – Jan.1)
  • There will be no construction work on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. The contractors will work regular hours for all other days during the holiday shutdown.
  • Saturday work is expected at the Fitness Center for the next three Saturdays in preparation for steel installation.
ISSUES IN PROGRESS
  • Neighborhood Disturbances
  • A member noted that there have been early morning trash pick-ups behind Marsh Hall in the past few weeks, some at 5a.m. and some at 7 a.m. Adria Leach to check the approved start time for deliveries and confirm at next SSUNAC meeting.
  • Alumni Field Lights
  • The university is in the process of scheduling a technician from the manufacturer to come out and complete a light reading to see if there are adjustments that can be made to the fixtures.
  • Crossing Guard Hours
  • As requested at the last meeting, crossing guard hours at Linden and Loring are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS
  • A member reported that the shuttle bus pickups in front of Meier Hall have improved, and bus drivers are pulling up closer to the curb than in the past.
  • A member reported that there are safety concerns where Linden Street and Atlantic Street merge because there is no center line and no clear right of way.
  • Councillor O’Keefe stated that he is working with Chief Gene Labonte on improving the bus top and handicapped parking in front of Meier Hall.

MEETING SCHEDULE
The next meeting of the SSUNAC will be on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. in the Enterprise Center Training Room B located on Central Campus at 121 Loring Avenue.
